Introduction of Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing Technologies and New Materials into the Production Process of "EKJU" Ltd.

 

March 2016.

 

            Within the scope of the project “Introduction of Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing Technologies and New Materials into the Production Process of "EKJU" Ltd." (No. NOFI/LV06/AK2/19), a seminar-discussion was held in March in the company's premises on the results achieved under the project with the participation of all the project partners, equipment and raw material suppliers. During the seminar the partners agreed that the project had been implemented very successfully and all the parties confirmed the benefits of enriching their knowledge, and proposed future research and development assignments.

February 2016.

 

            In February, the company visited several customers and cooperating partners, who were made acquainted with innovations regarding new, environmentally-friendly wood protection products and wood processing possibilities introduced under the scope of the project "Introduction of Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing Technologies and New Materials into the Production Process of "EKJU" Ltd." (No. NOFI/LV06/AK2/19). A discussion was held on the harmonisation of the results achieved under the project with the needs of the customers.

            From the 25th - 27th of February, the representatives of "EKJU" Ltd. and KĶĪ visited Oslo, Norway, where, together with Treteknisk representatives, they discussed the results of the research on the Ecological footprints of "EKJU" Ltd. that had been carried out within the scope of the project, as well as analysing the results of the research of KĶĪ. During the visit, the project participants took part in practical workshops on organising efficient production at the wood processing company, Bergene Holm A/S, which were headed by Havard Omhotl and organised by the Norwegian partners.

 

January 2016.

             In January, "EKJU" Ltd. organises some informative seminars with company clients on the implementation of the project "Introduction of Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing Technologies and New Materials into the Production Process of "EKJU" Ltd." (No. NOFI/LV06/AK2/19).

The company has supplied, installed and tested dimensioning equipment, purchased under the project.

            "EKJU" Ltd. launches the environmental impact assessment, foreseen under the project (No. NOFI/LV06/AK2/19). The necessary data are being collected and summarised and are to be submitted for analysis to the project partners – the specialists from the Norwegian Wood Technology Institute Treteknisk.

 

December 2015.

      The planer and stacking equipment, which are world-class appliances, have been purchased within the scope of the project "Introduction of Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing Technologies and New Materials into the Production Process of "EKJU" Ltd." (No. NOFI/LV06/AK2/19), are this month in full operation in the production unit of "EKJU" Ltd. in Cecilu Street. Thanks to the new equipment, the company can significantly increase its production volumes, and the output products are of significantly better quality.

Experiments on wood processing with grey and black impregnation and linseed oil paint continue, and the processed samples are being sent to the project partners in Latvia and Norway.

 

November 2015.

In November, "EKJU” Ltd. successfully installed the new planing, stacking and stapling equipment purchased within the scope of the project "Introduction of Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing Technologies and New Materials into the Production Process of "EKJU" Ltd." (No. NOFI/LV06/AK2/19), and the company’s employees were trained to work with the new equipment. The introduction of the new equipment into the production process has resulted in a significant improvement as regards the quality of the surface treatment of timber, achieving a silk-like, flat, wood surface after treatment.

This month, with the participation of the representatives of the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry, "Lonzas" company and SIA "AM2", an experiment was carried out with "EKJU" Ltd. that involved painting timber samples with pigmented impregnation. The tests of the painted samples will be explored under the laboratory conditions in December. A long-term experimental test bench was also installed within the territory of the company.

 

October 2015.

In October, "EKJU" Ltd. actively participated in the preparation and adaptation of premises to install the equipment to be purchased under the project "Introduction of Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing Technologies and New Materials into the Production Process of "EKJU" Ltd." (No. NOFI/LV06/AK2/19). Having built an additional building, the company’s existing planing workshops were expanded. In cooperation with the suppliers, the specialists involved in the project planned and organised the equipment delivery, transfer and installation processes, which were to be implemented in November.

Within the scope of the project, the first test samples were produced at the company's production facility this month. Particularly good results were achieved using black and grey linseed oil paint for garden furniture impregnation.

 

September 2015.

Within the scope of the project "Introduction of Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing Technologies and New Materials into the Production Process of "EKJU" Ltd." (No. NOFI/LV06/AK2/19) the company’s representatives met with the suppliers of black and grey impregnation paint. Among the tested colour suppliers, the products of the most environmentally-friendly technology companies - linseed paints - were also included.

               

August 2015.

In Ieriki on the 20th of August, in the meeting room of SIA "EKJU", the seminar was held with the active participation of the partners - the Norwegian Wood Technology Institute Treteknisk and the Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry. At this seminar, the planning of further research activities was discussed, and Treteknisk representatives advised the company on more environmentally-friendly types of wood surface treatment.

 

July 2015.

Within the scope of the project "Introduction of Environmentally Friendly Manufacturing Technologies and New Materials into the Production Process of "EKJU" Ltd." (No. NOFI/LV06/AK2/19) the first seminar, which will take place in August, was organised. The main theme of the seminar is the evaluation of pre-made samples, in addition to gathering information on the technologies to be used in future tests.

           

In order to plan as precisely as possible the installation place of the equipment to be purchased under the project co-financing at the "EKJU" plant, there was an active discussion with the suppliers regarding the size of the equipment.
